I believe that each and every student deserves to have the freedom of creativity in their school day. Every student has artistic potential, and it is their right to be able to exercise that potential in a safe and welcoming environment. I firmly believe that art is an integral part of the education process from childhood to adulthood. It is how we develop the ability to analyze, and form opinions on the world around us. I believe in treating students like the adults that they will once become, giving them a taste of the responsibility and freedom that they will undoubtedly receive later on in life. Art making isn't about structure and rigidity, it's about expression and creativity. This type of environment promotes confidence, and self-awareness, which is crucial in the development of competent members of society.

I intend to not only teach students about art, art making, and art history, but to also include subject matter that promotes deeper thought and the discussion of current events. Art making is the perfect medium for including different topics of discussion, and learning about how other artists have used art to create change. To introduce the students to art history, and the power that artists have had on politics and culture, without giving them that same opportunity is a tremendous loss. Students of any age have a voice, and have the power to use that voice for good. It is our duty to give them as many mediums as possible to do so. Being an art educator is an extremely important occupation in this sense, we are teaching future generations how to express their opinions and beliefs in a substantial way. Through my art curriculum, my goal is to help create passionate and empowered activists, inspired to use their voices in this ever changing world.
